A few weeks ago, we learned that Donald Trump thinks it's a "great idea" to make Canada the 51st state of America.
But the internet wasn't even sure if Trump was serious or not — until today, that is. In a Jan. 7 press conference, a reporter asked Trump if (assuming he's not joking) he's considering using "military force to annex and acquire Canada." Trump replied: "No. Economic force. Because Canada and the United States — that would really be something."
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has since responded on X saying there "isn't a snowball's chance in hell that Canada would become part of the United States." Which is a very funny choice of words, IMO. But anyway, point is, the discussion is really heating up.
Naturally, everyone on the internet — but especially Canadians — is BUZZING. As if we didn't have enough to worry about this week. Here's what people are saying:
Does he have any clue how many provinces there are? That it is officially a bi-lingual country? Has he ever even looked at a map? Or read the history of anything??
Half our identity as Canadians is that we’re not American. It’s been that way for my 42 years as a Canadian. Let me know if that has changed because I’m damn proud to have maple syrup running through my veins.
