The Internet Is Sharing The Wild Things People Are Doing To Survive Rising Costs Of Living And Some Of Them Deserve A Medal

My strategy is shopping at my brother's house.

Barring the wealthy majority, the rest of us are going through it, when it comes to spending, saving and finding our money. Many have resorted to sacrificing life's little comforts to tackle the rising costs of living and some have resorted to extremes. A Redditor took to the r/AskAnAustralian subreddit, asking users to share bold stories and strategies that they've witnessed others doing to save big buck$$$. Here are some tried and test life hacks, that have helped them (and others):

*Accompanied by moments from Netflix's Money Heist

    1. "Worked with a bloke who had a few houses, a few hundred grand in the bank yet had been divorced 3 times and decimated in the settlements. Paid child support most of his life too. Same guy used to take everything that wasn't bolted down, but it was all petty shit."

    2. "I used to Airbnb my house and go camping when it got booked."

    3. "I had a mate that rented an old farmhouse for one dollar, per week."

    4. "I eat the kids' leftovers, if there are any, so I'm using less food every meal."

    5. "At my old workplace, there was a Whatsapp group the recent grads and work placement kids set up. It was solely dedicated to the leftover catering in the building."

    6. "I had a co-worker who would pilfer cleaning supplies from our workplace."

    7. "I moved out [to the] bush and live off selling stuff I make on Etsy and eBay."

    8. "Steal toilet paper from work and piss in the backyard to avoid flushing the toilet."

    9. Beware of mercury poisoning but one user suggested, "Eating only canned tuna with maybe crackers or rice from time to time, for an entire year for every meal."

    10. "I stopped renting a house and started sleeping down at the local park at night."

    11. "I quit drinking and smoking 20 years ago. Probably saved me 180k over that period in today’s dollars. Compounding to make me 250k better off as well as a bunch healthier and happier."

    12. "Lived in a camper van parked in a underground carpark I rented (very close to my workplace)."

    13. "Seen multiple locals walking out of Coles with a full trolley of shopping when they definitely have not paid for it."

    14. "Got a few mates that get most of their meat intake from fresh roadkill."

    15. "Got a divorce."

    16. "My housemate used to cut his own hair with hair clippers, then return the hair clippers a day later for a full refund."

    17. "I used to work with a guy who made bank from entering competitions."

    18. And finally, "Save money on rent by using Tinder perpetually."
